"Seasonal Concert"
At a first encounter, the trio “Diatonische Expeditionen” may seem like a traditional folk music band. This might be partly true, but appearances are deceiving. As they begin to play their instruments, these three Austrian musicians reveal a musical language all their own, transcending genres and, indeed, pushing boundaries.
Theresa Lehner, Katharina Baschinger and Alexander Maurer play what they like most – a string of music that meanders like a mountain stream, from alpine folk music through jazz and pop, as well as classical music, and includes their own carefully crafted original compositions. They mix the unique voice of the Styrian button accordion with smooth alto vocals and the full, sparkling ring of a harp.
“Diatonische Expeditionen” is not only a name, but a description. They use their diatonic instruments to take listeners on a voyage of discovery. All travels must begin somewhere, and so too does the musical expedition of this Austrian trio, whose home in the alps and alpine folk music is not the end of their musical excursion, but the beginning of a wonderful journey that has fascinated their audiences.
Theresa Lehner, Katharina Baschinger and Alexander Maurer are excited to share a facet of the Austrian musical soul, full of tradition and diversity, and take it to the tremendous cultural variety of America.
