Celebrating Canada’s 150th and Latvia’s 100th Anniversary
Latvian artists Dzintra Erliha, pianist, Emma Bandeniece, cellist, and Canadian–Latvian mezzo soprano, Vilma Indra Vitols present World Premieres for cello and piano, by Imants Ramiņš and Ludmila Knezkova-Hussey and works by Lūcija Garūta, Pēteris Vasks, Jāzeps Mediņš and Tālivaldis Ķeniņš.
The concert will be followed by a reception supported by the Embassy of Latvia.

Mezzo-soprano Vilma Indra Vitols, has appeared in leading roles in The Magic Flute, Opera Atelier; Carmen, SOL; Threepenny Opera, Vancouver Opera; Eugene Onegin, Pacific Opera Victoria; Alcina, Essential Opera and Sweeny Todd, Opera by Request and is a member of the Canadian Opera Company Chorus. Prior to full time music studies, Vilma completed an M.A. in Philosophy. She began boxing in the spring of 2006 and won her first amateur bout in 2008. Her two passions of singing and boxing were combined in Voice-Box, a new music collaboration with Toronto’s Urbanvessel, which premiered as part of Harbourfront’s World Stage in November 2010.
A winner of awards at several prestigious competitions, pianist Dzintra Erliha, has performed not only in her native Latvia, but in concert halls in Brazil, Iceland, France, Finland, Poland and Ukraine. Ms Erliha has recorded several CD’s which have met with critical acclaim, including piano solo works by composers Lūcija Garūta, and Olivier Messiaen as well as a recent CD entitled Tilts pār jūrām / The Bridge Across the Seas, in collaboration with Vilma Indra Vitols.
Rising star cellist Emma Bandeniece studies at the Jazeps Vitols Music Academy in Riga. She is currently a guest member of the renowned international chamber orchestra, Kremerata Baltica – comprised of twenty-three outstanding young musicians from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. In 2017, Emma won the Baltic Academies Orchestra Solo Cello Competition and was invited to perform in Tartu, Estonia and Vilnius, Lithuania.
